Last year they ran Volante TC tires for GT ProSpec. Not sure if F1 has to be a Tamiya tire or if its open tire (if open, the Exoteks are amazing).

Pretty sure it’s the Volante 36R compound tire for Pro Spec. Not sure on F1 yet.

Looking at the tcs rules it says big dog is using Rush VR3 36x. I would check with them though just to make sure.

I got a reply from John Raskop at Big Dog:.
  • Exotek F1 tires.
  • Pro Spec - Tamiya, Volante or Yokomo.
  • Track is open for practice Friday 10am-dark
That answers some questions but raises even more.. I saw some videos on their FB page.. cars sliding all over the place in the mains.. doesn’t look like a lot of grip?
So go soft? or will softs not last on asphalt? I only ever race on CRC carpet.. so this is all new to me 😊

I messaged Big Dog on Facebook today. A couple of us Long Islanders are going to be making the trip so I wanted to know the tire situation. They told me it will be open tire for both F1 and GT classes because they can not get a large enough quantity of any tire to make a spec tire. Really looking forward to running at this track.

Same here.. very much looking forward to letting my F1 rip down that loooong straight.. switching to my prospec car will probably feel like slow motion after that 😀

Big Dog race is coming up and I am getting my cars ready, low grip asphalt, loooooog straights and wide turns.. I could use some tips on setup for my F1 and Pro Spec.. Here is what I am thinking..
  • On the F1, since there is no weight limit.. go light.. gear up.. and go with soft tires.. CRCs or Exotek Red/Double Red..
  • On the Pro Spec.. big battery.. but try to come in at 1400.. thinking about putting the one way up front.. 2.5 toe rear.. 1.0 toe front.. soft dampers.. yellow springs..
Basically anything to go fast on the straights and carry speed through the turns.. I have a couple different bodies for the Pro Spec.. Ford GT, Mustang and Toyota.. normally I would run the lightweight Mustang.. but aero may come into play..

I better come out on Thursday or Friday for some practice runs.. so many unknowns.. things to try..

I’ll be there racing Mini and Pro Spec. If you see a Gulf scheme on a Miata and Ford GT that’s me. Fingers crossed the weather holds out!
