Fred,

How about an official statement concerning this ongoing spec motor availability problem?

My guess is this order that’s coming in to Reedy will be a large order that should get them back in good shape for a while.

My money is on a hand full of racers will buy up all the new stock, leaving everyone else still scrambling to find a motor. The sad thing is these Ready ft motors burn up easily. #checkyourtemps

Really? Where are you guys gearing?

Thats the unfortunate part of spec motor racing...buy 10 and pick 3...sell the rest. I hope the restock is 100s of motors...that’s what is needed at least.

We run the Reedy and Hobbywing FT 21.5 in our 21.5 TC class. Both run equally as well on a 100 x 48 black carpet track and the gearing is between 2.75 and 3.15 FDR. The Hobbywing motors run cooler then the Reedy motors. I have seen numerous Reedy motor release their Magic Smoke.

Wow! I haven’t even begun to stretch the legs on this thing yet!

Having spec gearing will eliminate the Magic Smoke issue.

There will still be the need for those to sift thru the motor pile tho right?

I would give Tim Ski call at Hobbyplex, if there is a short supply, encourage him to keep a list and sell 1 to a person. I am not worried about it unless my GT2 or MIni burns mine up. LoL

Fred did say last week there will not be a shortage issue. Tamiya does have a close relationship with Reedy.

Then we go to hand out motors on top of spec gearing. You will have to give the motor back at the end of the day.

Me and a buddy refuse to buy a junky FT motor for one race. Very disappointed that I can't run in my local TCS race. I haven't run a TCS race for 7 years or so and just got back into indoor racing this winter at my local track. I'm supposed to buy one or two Reedy FT motors for one race a year? We're just average racers looking to have fun, we're not going to win even with a good motor. This is stupid. Also stupid is all the sponsored drivers in F1, etc.

I agree on the sponsored drivers ...read the rules...if you get discount from any product manufacturers you are only eligible to race in GT1...I assume that means any trip winning class. So no mini, GT2 or F1 if you are in any way getting discounts from sponsorship from any RC company.

While I don't disagree that it stinks to buy something for one race I will say that from what I've seen FT motors have made racing better when used. The entire field of drivers is closer from top to bottom and it really limits the issues with motor wars or the perceived on track speed of that war. I've spent the last 6-year running mostly mod classes to avoid the motor of the month club but running 21.5 TC with spec motors is really fun (slow, but fun) and it really brings everyone closer together.

I absolutely feel your pain but I think the solution is to try a spec FT motor class at your track. It's become one of the largest at ours and if that happens at your track you won't be buying the motor for just one race.

It's a reedy motor. It's not junky. Just fixed timing. Maybe the question to ask is "is the motor legal in the other fixed timing classes?".
