If it's open modified, run whatever you'd like. If you want to run a 3.5, go nuts, if you think you can only handle a 10.5, run that. Faster motors are only faster if you can use it. Power is self regulated by traction. Too many agreements and such just make things more complicated.

Yeah I totally agree with that. I just don't class descriptions to become too specific or confusing, as that would be a step in the wrong direction. Perhaps it is just "strongly recommended" for people moving into mod to start with a 10.5 or 9.5 and move up from there.

At the roar carpet regionals you were a tie breaker away from beating me... so we are at the same driving level... My car just goes to 11

Hi guys.
Look - I am being told to work a little harder on 1) less provocation and 2) be less sensitive - so go easy on me here...
IF you are going to put any kind of spec on the mod class please let's not make it just a gentleman's agreement. The class is on "the books" as open mod, and a gentleman's agreement is a variable that you need to be in the loop on ahead of time in order to comply.
Not that I would resist the agreement. On the contrary: I like the idea of spec mod. However I can easily imagine a racer or two showing up with the wrong thing any given week and needing to do the solder-dance at the last minute. That is just no fun at all.
So please if you are going to spec mod at some motor level then lets vote on it and button it down just for predictability's sake.
On the other hand I *really* like a 10.5 or so with dynamic timing. It looks like the only way I would get to do that is if mod remains totally open.
Either way I will try my best to remember my soldering iron and all my motors.

so, I just wanted to jump in with a bit of history to address any concerns about stock (17.5 no timing) and those allowed to race in this class. When I raced slot cars a few dozen years back, some of the most enjoyable times were racing in a class that is the equivalent of our stock TC class (1/12th 13.5 no timing class too). The races we had in this stock based class allowed every racer to compete, all the way up to the top pros that raced the open mod class. Every car was close enough in speed, that everyone had a chance to win. The turnout for this class always had enough to have multiple mains run. We ran bump ups from every main, so you could bump from the F main all the way up to the A. I never saw as many smiles, week in and week out. We are going to have some really close racing, that will have you grinning, whether you are racing at the time, or watching the action.
By the way, Mod is and should be open. Run what you want to run.
Lets have fun, thats why we do this.
Enjoy, I'm going to.
