Default dumb question

Just have to throw out a dumb question here. Just wondering what most people are running for spur and pinion gearing for stock TC. I am currently running a 96 spur and 39 pinion for an FDR of 4.18. Current temps at the hanger run 105 to 120. If I am not mistaken good temps for brushless are 140-160? If I understand correctly than I could easily gear up. My other question is this: If I want to gear for faster straight speed but slower acceleration in the infield which way would I go? Bring the two gears closer to the same size or farther apart? Just throwing some things out there.

See ya'll wednsday.

The Hanger did have a stash of Blues for sale, proceeds supported the club. Todd can verify is there is stock left.

well, in my humble opinion, if your running 12.5's at 120, and you gear up and are still running 12.5's but the temp is now 160 whats the point.

another thing is different brand motors do run better at different gearing, if you want you would be safe to go up at least two teeth on the pinion. this 'should' give you more speed on the straight, but it 'may' also give you more bottom end for the infield. despite what some will tell you, spur/pinion combo DOES make a difference in the feel of the car. if you have the options, set your gear around 3.8 with a 96 spur, and then if possible to get a 3.8 with a 106 or 110 try that. you should feel a difference in off power corner speed, drag brake, and accelleration. all in my opinion.

btw i to am running a 96 spur in 17.5

Rdog,

Brian and Mike and a few others are more informed than me, but I do know that 80mm or so would be a good starting point. If your speedo is a Tekin and you have the version with Turbo them maybe gear more like 65 or 70mm.

I am sure this question will be answered by a few more of the Hangar's finest.

Randy 75 to 80 rollout should be a good starting point depending on how the speedo is set up. I was at a 79 at TZII with a lot of timing advance in the ESC. Others were higher in the mid 80's but with less timing advance. I will probably drop 2 or 3 teeth to run on Weds.

You're right, of course, I should have written more carefully. Excepting batteries, ROAR is not in the electronics-approval business. They don't have the equipment or budget to undertake such an effort. However, ROAR is adding to the rulebook to clarify things. Voltage to the motor will be limited to 8.4v for 2S, and 4.2v for 1S. Expect it in the next rulebook if not sooner via addendum. If it is discovered--presumably through commercial competitors reverse-engineering the unit--that the Black Diamond is stepping up voltage, ROAR will intervene.

Anyway, why am I hijacking this thread?!

Hey Stewart! Good to hear from you. We're running a Novice class which looks a lot like GT3 from your SIR days. Either the silver can you have or a 21.5 brushless setup would be good to get back in the groove. If you're looking for a good transition out of Novice, Scale Spec is probably just right. But come on down, see what's going on, run Novice with what you have, and take it from there. You shouldn't have any problem making it up here. Plenty of guys are rolling in at 6pm, and Q1 isn't until 7pm.

if the ESC is banned, does Hanger 30 plan on following roars lead, or will it continue to pick and chose which roar rule to follow?

I would imagine that the answer to your first question is yes. As for the second send me a PM with the specifics.

All this talk about rollout made me realize that I have no clue where to start....

1/12
Sphere
17.5 Duo

If I understand correctly, the lower turn the motor is, the more RPM it should be spinning...? Using that as a guide and what you guys have recommended as a starting point for 13.5, I should shoot for around 85ish? Way off?

85 is probably the low end of where you want to start. Middle of the road would be 90.
