What little bit of points venues that I have raced at mostly have throw outs to allow racers to pick a week or 2 off to not race so that they can attend another big race on a points weekend that other club racers may not wish to attend, or give a grace date for racers that might have something come up to where they cannot make a race date such as a family event, change of work schedule, or even sickness, & not be at a loss for the entire points season.
I personally find this most effective with the points scoring system that most tracks utilize, ie (100, 99, 98, 97) unless the venue plans on having a 100 race points series.
This way if someone wants thier throwout to be a "0" then so be it. If some one wants to show up to every race & try to "lock in" thier "best" scores then this method allows that as well.
Just my 2 cents & I know that people hate it when "I" say that.LOL.

i think kuffs makes a good point, in that...assuming we had 2 or 3 throwouts, you could throw out for the time you missed plus the time you broke twice and ended up last in the C Main...or maybe that time when nobody saw your car and you got a 15 second corner marshall - since everybody wouldn't have the same bad luck, it could actually have an effect (good or otherwise, depending on your perspective) on the final standings - as it is, like kuffs said, when we all throw out our 0 it will have zero effect on the standings...(obviously, i'm assuming everybody missed at least once - for those who had perfect attendance, they'll be able to throw out the night they had bad luck)...
...but since i think the rules at the beginning of the season were one throwout i don't think we should change them now...
