I currently run the Pro4 4600 and I've driven a truck that has an HD 4300 and I'd say go HD all the way. The power difference is very noticeable, especially in the low/mid torque range. It also seems smoother overall, although some of that was probably due to the gen2 rx8 in the truck with the HD motor (vs. my gen1).

My Pro4 4000 has finally shown it is exhausted. I've had it for 2 years and it's been through 3 chassis. It's time for a new motor. Currently I have an SCX4x4 5.5 in there and I really don't like it. It feels sluggy and although, smooth: I have to gear it to the roof to get what I need out of it. (I'm a super competitive Driver, Not a basher)

What are your guys' thoughts as far as my next Tekin motor? An HD? Or go with the benchmark Pro 4 4600 and be happy for another 2 years? I'm asking since you guys have been working with the HD's and 550's. Is it time to go there? Or keep light and bursty with the 540 4poles?

I'd like a little discussion on your parts to help me along. I greaaaaatly appreciate it.
The HW motors are pretty awesome I really like mine I had the 4000kv 4pole and it is a beast. I bought a 4300 HD today because I couldn't pass it up for the price seemed to be a little smoother than the HW. I still think the HW might make a little more power. It was hard to tell the track was really dusty and both motor were a handful. I'm running the HD tomorrow on a track with a little more grip so I should get a better feel on the HD.

I'm in the same boat. Running a 4000KV which was great in my Durango but with the Tekno weighing a bit more I'm getting a new motor.

Figure it's worth the extra ounce of weight with the HD because it will supposedly run cooler and I can always tone it down. Better to have it and not need it them vice versa I guess.

That and it's that new new haha!

HW SC motors are very good. Been running a 4700k in my Tekno for 6 months now. Hasn't missed a beat. For ~$90 shipped with a 180 day warranty it is one of the best values going in RC.

I'm not saying there aren't other good motors, guys. I run 100% tekin and I am keeping it that way. Streamlining my fleet is the way I do things.

So I see HD comments. If the truck was like the Pro 4 4600 but smoother, I'd be all for that. Is that a general census of smoother?

Default Another Tekno Win

This truck is paying off. Ben Burtle (not pictured) and myself went 1 -2 yesterday to win some cash at the Mayhem in the Market race. The truck was awesome all day. Got some cash with my Tekno converted Mugen too.

Thank you Tekno!

Shaun, go with the HD. It is a little strange. It pulls waaay harder than a Pro 4600, but is smoother at the same time. Power comes on NOW, but is more controllable than the 4600. The 4600 seems to build power all of the sudden about 10-15ft after exiting the corner, if you get my drift.

Going to the Nationals and I just realized the Hobbywing SC ESC and 4700 are not Roar approved. Guess I am getting another Tekin system just for this event. Running all 3 classes but have Tekin systems in buggy and truggy. Been happy with the HW in sc4x4 though since I tried it. Runs much stronger/cooler and its cheaper than the Tekin even with my military discount. At last years Nitro Nationals I got tech inspected almost every round so the HW not gonna cut it

I only think there are ROAR approved non-timing esc's. You might want contact someone about that motor at the race. I wouldn't be surprised if they were letting people use that HD motor that isn't approved yet so maybe the 4700 will get a pass too.

Raced for the first time in over 3 months last night. Figured I'd be rusty (and I was a little) but this Tekno just does what it is supposed to. What a blast! I also ran my 22 buggy which I love as well, but I had to really work hard to get that to respond. The only thing I had to do to the Tekno was to switch to the right tires! Only changes to stock was to lay down the rear shocks, limit droop a bit, and went 7-10-5 in the diffs. Just amazing to drive this one! I TQ'd and took second behind a very good racer (track owner). If you don't own this truck yet, you are missing out!
