If you peel the sticker off the rx8 fan, there is a o-ring holding it in there. Take that o-ring off with a exacto and coat the fan's windings with CA glue, let it dry then put the o-ring back on. The CA stops the fan from moving around!

I'm not sure I like it all that much, at least with those settings. It seemed very on and off although the power was good and I had not problem making it over absolutely everything the 4600 was smoother. Also, I thought my temps would go down on the 4300 but that's not the case either. I'm not sure if something is up with my RX8 but it seems very inconsistant on power delivery. After punching it over the triple it seems not to have anything left to adjust in the air, almost like when it hits the take off ramp, it farts out. I thought maybe it was a brown out so I put a CCBEC in but it still seems to do it. I'm also very dissapointed in the fan on the RX8, I get maybe 10 laps out of them before they either stop working or the blades start snapping off. With the fan my temps start climbing into the 150's so I'm afraid without it I might run too hot.

Has anyone else run something other then the RX8 with the pro4 HD's? I think I might have to try something else as getting new RX8's is nearly impossible now, unless I want to pay a premium for them and that's not going to happen.
I would go up another tooth on the pinion. If you are topping out in the air and can't bring the nose back up, you are usually undergeared. These motors make an insane amount of torque and gearing up lets you not only take advantage of it, but keeps the motor in a more efficient rpm range so you're temps should drop as well while smoothing out the powerband.

I try to never use a fan on anything. I just don't trust fans in general and make sure I'm not relying on a fan to finish a race. 150 on the esc is cold. The rx8 doesn't go into thermal shutdown until its closer to 250-270.

What were your motor temps?

Motor temp after about 9 minutes was 173. I thought about being undergeared but I'm just barely topping out at the end of the straight. Maybe I will try going up to a 17 and see what happens. I'm more concerned as the ambient temps here are still in the 60's, what's going to happen when it's 90-100?

I still think it's something in the ESC because it's very inconsistant. If it was the gearing wouldn't happen all the time? I have another RX8 in my SC10 4x4 I might try and put in the SCT, I just hate pulling apart perfectly functional rigs, especially when I run both when I go to the track to let one cool.

Good to know about the thermal shut down. I just like the fan for peace of mind.

on the rx8 fan deal......i replace my fans immediately with the muchmore racing fans, you just have to swap the original connector and solder on to the muchmore wire. these fans are super high speed and i havent had an issue at all. they have lasted quite a while with no blades breaking etc...

Can't take all the credit, local fast guy Steve Weber shared the tip with me!

I have the SCTE on mine and it is just barely inside, almost above the bumber. I would prefer it to be back more so I could bring the nose of it down lower.

I've never broken a fan in the SC but the E-Buggy would pop blades off every run it seemed. According to Tekin, if it's geared right, the fan is unnecessary. I also started going by the temp lights on the RX8 itself instead of a temp gun. I never had any heat issues with the E-Buggy without the fan. Except for when the esc caught fire of course.

If running 4S, I have this fan from back when I first did 1/8 e buggy using the old castle Mamba Max Speedo with its BEC bypassed and the case drilled that we would wire direct to the battery posts. It is good size fan that doesn't break and really throws the air. If anyone is interested I can take a look at the model number and send.

Maybe they make a similar one for 2S usage?

This is from the RX8 thread
http://www.rctech.net/forum/11851642-post17172.html

There are a number of different voltages that can be found but this looks like what he was suggesting

A few guys at my track said they never run the fans. As it can cause problems and short out the Esc If the fan goes tits up. I've talked with Cain a bit and he is runnin the speed passion gt2.0.... This speedo is only 99$ and seems pretty robust. I think I'm going to try it as my viper vtx10r just can't put out the power to hang in the class

I have the same body and the bumper was about an inch behind the body so I moved the bumper forward. Now it's about 1/4" in front of the body.

the funny thing too is that Speed Passion makes another ESC, the Silver Arrow V2 that i use on the EB48 on 4S that I really wonder if it could be used for 2S usage also. Heck, in its pull down menu it lists 2S, but SP recommends the GT2.0 Pro on 2S .

I can post a pic if you or anyone else wants to see how it fits in the chassis.
