Suggest leaving the timing alone on the motor , more timing will make a lot hotter motor and bring only a little more top speed ...

Will also produce less bottom end power , even tuffer for making the jump .

The main issue I would see with that motor Kv outside of an indoor small track is that when you go to gear, two things could occur:

- You need bigger pinions, can be a pain to put in unless you open up the opening on motor mount
- The motor may get hot as you try to gear for more top speed.

To be honest from what I am seeing with my 4000Kv pro4, these 2S setups with the vehicle being as big as it is just don't seem to like going past certain points on gearing in comparison to what I am seeing for 1/8 electric motors.

I personally think the 4000Kv is a good motor size in the pro4 line up for all around, unless you are on a really big track, then the 4600kv would do you better.

Not sure if it was on here or on rcshortcourse, but I won't be able to test the lower antisquat setting of the m2C blocks as the race got canceled this weekend. Probably won't be any more outdoor stuff either for racing so time to give the SC10 4x4 the tear down and set it up for carpet.

For those who run on carpet, what tires have you been going with? the stockers work well, but I want a bit more bite.

From what i have been hearing and reading up on pro setup sheets, from speed passion anyway but the concept would be the same, they are pretty much using turbo in the later RPM ranges to get more top end and keep things cool. The last setup sheet I saw this was done in the heavier losi. Doesn't take much of a value either.

But in general you don't use the overall timing that applies throughout the RPM range.

Have you guys had any bearing failures yet? Which ones tend to go first?

The Ae bearings are very good , only failures I have experience is on the ft & rear hub bearing's # 25238 . Seems those bearings take a beating from hard hits & landings..

With the rx8 you can set the rpm that the timing kicks in at and I think the default is about 19k. You can set it higher if you want... but play with the settings in hotwire and watch temps.

Yeah, those are the only bearings I've had go out on me. A couple times the bearings literally fell out of the case when I removed the wheel hex to inspect. Obviously they went too long before replacement... but it was not very long.

I use the Avid revolution bearings for that application now, really nice bearings and their $1 a piece instead of $2.50 or whatever for the AE bearing.

This thing chews through wheel bearings like no other car I've had, AE should have gone a little bigger.

The rear diff bearings take a little more maintenance than the fronts do also probably because of more dirt getting thrown at them but they still last 5 times longer than the wheel bearings.

Kriostasis (sp??) has full AE bearing kits for like $15 or something, that's a deal if you want to stick with AE.
Correction, $18

Funny you should bring this up. Just had a sudden and catastrophic bearing failure during a race on Sunday. Bearing blew to pieces, cvd slipped out of the outdrive and I had to pull the truck off the track.

Im ordering some new gear. Im looking at the tenshock motors. I run indoor and outdoor. The indoor is small and tight thinking a 4000kv motor, but the outdoor track is 8th scale and rather large with some bigger jumps and was thinking 4600 or even the 5200. Should i just get both for outdoor since ill spend just about the same amount as one tekin 4600.

4600 is all you need for both

depending on how tight it is indoors, you may find its too much motor or runs hot with the gearing you can put on. I would ask around to see what others have experienced at your track.

Like Cain said, ask at your track, but the 411 4600 is great at a large outdoor and medium/large indoor... both with 13\62. Haven't had to change gearing since I changed to a 550 4 pole.
