SC10 4x4 Thread

I always tuned power delivery with my throttle finger.Never have ran expo or dual rate.Don't see anything wrong with using it but I feel if you can control it with your fingers it makes you a better driver.I have read that turning the end point down to control power is hard on the esc but don't see how expo would hurt anything.

MMPs' internal BEC's are terrible and as i've become competetive in racing. (fighting for 3rd) my MMPs are not keeping up. They're dying and chugging out.
I installed my RX8(out of my rc8.2e) with stock out of the box settings:
- was able to gear down 3 teeth - Truck ran cleaner and faster than ever before. Now I know why people were saying the 4000 was enough for this chassis. Because it wasn't with a MMP.
- Turned down radio throttle throw to 90% - Radio was at 150% throttle to push any extra juice out of the top end to get it on par with the other guys through the fast stuff.
Now my motor runs 30* cooler. The MMP can't push amps and voltage for those 6-10 minute runs never stopping and relentless power you're asking for while racing. They choke.
Bashing, and all around track fun they are fantastic. I still have full trust in Castle products but they aren't designed for such requirements.

Please ignore him. Expo is a fantastic tuning option. I run -25% steering expo and -15% throttle expo. It works wonders. AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH POWER BANDS, GEARING, AND "MILDER MOTORS". It's simply dumbs down the PHYSICAL steering wheel and trigger. It does not slow down the truck only fakes the reciever into not "recieving" such twitchy commands. For example: If you're driving 2wd and keep swinging the back end out but know the truck is dialed, try -10 or 20% Expo. It will "help" you not jar the throttle. Bandaid or not, in the heat of the battle, fingers twitch, and overdoing a corner is done.
Don't believe me, you believe the AE underwear boy?

Maifield ran Expo on both throttle and steering. Guess the guy should have ran a 4.5 instead of a 4.0.

We expo planes for older folk who have unsteady hands so they can fly like anyone else. (-60 to -80% expo) again, it does nothing to the power of the motor or the throws of the servos.
(This is not in retort of his comment about Throttle EPA, he is unfortunately correct about that. Don't turn it down, go get the correct motor)

What should i gear a 550 4.5 and 5.5 tekin motor in my 4x4 on 2s? big outdoor like revelation raceway and indoor like ocrc? Thanks for any input.

When I had a sc4x 4.5 in I ran 12 indoor and 13 outdoor. Roughly add a tooth for the 5.5.

I dont think I'll be racing this weekend unfortunately, just practice. Well practice is better than no practice.

For those who are running a 550 4.5 can and RX8, are you guys running any timing advance. If so what are you gearing at and how much timing are you running?

Well i took the plunge and bought the mt4 this weekend. Coming from the rtr radio i got with my 2wd , wow is all i can say, I had no idea what i had been missing! Ive only been into this a little over 2 months and just changing radios made me look like id been driving much longer. Before the truck was very ass happy, after all of a sudden i was able to control it and actually was able to put together decent laps. I found myself starting to be able to plan out my line thru the track and controlling jumping distances instead of just trying to keep the truck from spinning out.
If anyone else out there is on the fence whether or not to upgrade and what to upgrade to. This is my hands down recomendation. Thanks to you guys here too for helping the decision

Running a 4 pole now without timing.
Just add timing as temps allow, 160° or less.

Good to hear! I agree completely, and feel that is the absolute best advice you can give anybody that only has two knobs on their radio!
