I do have a gear cover on. What's a good way to set mesh on this truck?

man, I have been doing gear mesh since before you were born, lol. I just have a feel for it. There should be some wiggle but not too much. Sec, let me look for a picture.

The only trouble I've seen with Savox is when you use them with an ESC that doesn't have a strong BEC.
The RX8 will give you 5A which is what most Savox will peak at.
Some other ESCs only have a 3A BEC, which will definately have problems with getting enough power to a Savox servo.
with that being said, I will be retiring my Savox as soon as I can save up for another Futaba. My buggies both run Futaba and they have been golden!

Couldn't get past the 2nd turn of the next heat, it was not driveable. Had to get a BEC. Probably the difference of having a pro4 or the tenshock high draw motors, but in my experience the savox was not worth the $.

Take the gear cover off and see if you can see daylight through the motor mount.... if light can get in, so can dirt!

15/60, no light.

What pinion/spur are you running? I found that when I was running 13/62, the motor was far enough back that the holes that the motor screws go through were exposed and let a LOT of dirt into the gearbox with the pinion/spur. Running 15/62, it seemed OK.

This mesh good or too loose? Thanks!

way too loose & looks like the pinion has issues as well .bet its a bit noisy
After setting the mesh its a good idea to recheck a few times.
after setting mesh
Rotate the spur around a 1/4 turn, then recheck mesh to make sure nothing is out of round .
PS
get a VTS

I may be wrong so others can chime in. Your mesh looks okay but the teeth on your pinion gear look mangled and deformed. Compare them to the shape of the teeth on your spur gear. That could be the reason for your gears wearing out in a couple of runs.
