Matt Francis Retires
Just got back from the banquet here in italy, and there it was told to all the drivers that after a long 19 years of racing, 6 years with Associated and 7 with Losi, the 2 time world champ winner 1995 and 2002, Matt Francis is offically hanging up the controler, "i have come to a point where i have decied that i need to move on, pass the torch on"
Matt will no longer be racing off-road, but he will still do a little on-road (a few events here and there)
He will be sorly missed in the RC community. He has been one of the major embasitors of the RC industry in the past couple of decades.
Good luck in your future Matt

I really hope this is not true...Matt is still one of the fastest drivers on any given day and THE nicest and most helpful out there! If he's doing it to get on with his life and better himself, then cool good for him...Matt,thanks for all the help over the years and good luck with everything.

Said he was going to spend a couple weeks looking around in Italy after the Worlds; but, not this!
Hopefully, he will continue in Nor-Cal on-road where he is totally Da Man.
We wish Matt great success in his real life of being a real estate agent and any other ventures he undertakes.

My daughter and I met him at the mod nats.Asked him to sign our truck and buggy bodies.Even tho we run associated he had no problem and chatted with us a bit.We were impressed by him thru the whole week. His dedication, practice routine etc.Too bad.Hopefully Losi will be able to keep him in whatever capacity.Glad we got to see him run before this. Thanks for the memories Matt.good luck.Mario and Kate.

Listen to the interview that matt did. It was metioned by the interviewer that this is the 1st worlds that he hasnt made the A in 10 years. It left him almost speechless. Matt Clip here
It is a sad day for sure if he follows through with this.

I hope it's not true, but after listening to that interview I can understand why he may feel like retiring. Matt is a true Ambassador of the r/c world. He's the class of all factory drivers. In all the races I've seen him attend I never once saw him turn away anyone who approached him. Many fast drivers come and go without leaving much of a mark. Matt's one of the few to leave a GIANT and permanent mark in R/C racing.

I wonder if he is REALLY retiring or just retiring Billy Easton style.
