Default KO EX-10 and Spectrum

Hi All,

I am trying to replace the original antenna with the spectrum antenna. Anyone have any pics of how to do this?

Ok, i'll send pics tomorrow. But I do not have pics on details on how I did it internally. I will have pics once it is all together. I used the link below for reference.

I did a Hitec CRX in the same manner and I would suggest that after you fit the Spektrum antenna in, anchor it to the radio body with some hot glue or silicone. Mine became loose and I became worried that the antenna lead was going to be twisted. To ream out the original hole, I used a 1/4" drill wrapped with fine sandpaper to hone it out slowly.

When I did mine I drilled out one of the screw holes to run the antenna wire through . There is no need to drill through the circuit board like the old EX-1 . Just push the antenna into the antenna hole and connect the wire after routing the wire around the radio . It`s pretty self explanatory once you open up the radio .

I have attached some pics. They are not the best pics as they were taking from my camera phone.

1) I would recommend to go over the link I provided in this thread from xtremeRC. It has the basic concept.

2) Remove the module and take apart the radio.

3) Disassemble the Module and unplug the antenna. Keep in mind that they are two antenna plugs. You should be using the same antenna plug as the XtremeRC link (one furthest away from the green LED)

4) To get the antenna to fit where the original antenna was, you need to gut out the antenna holder using an exacto knife and reemer. I used a screw to keep the Spectrum antenna snugged. Pics are attached with arrow point to screw. Also, remove the most top layer of the antenna holder such that you can have room to bend the Spectrum antenna.

5) Where to drill is hard to explain. I am not sure how to load pics on this forum such that I can provide the picture as I go. Essentially, you need to drill a hole through the module and radio. The hole should be such that the antenna wire should be close to the place where the main antenna fits, towards the top of the radio. It is essential that you drill in the right place or you will not have enough wire to bend the Spectrum antenna.

6) Once all the holes are drilled, reconnect the antenna wire back to the Spectrum. Put everything back together, and that should be it.

Once again, sorry I do not have step by step pics. I was so nervous doing this, I did not think to take any.

But, I hope this helps!!!

Let me know if you have any questions as some of this maybe unclear.

I've ran my KO with this mod for the past 7-8 months, and have had no troubles at all. It really does clean up the appearance, and really isn't to difficult of a task.
