NEW Spektrum 3-Channel Micro Racing Rx (SR3500)

NEW Spektrum 3-Channel Micro Racing Rx (SR3500)
SR3500 DSM 3-Channel Micro Racing Rx, Surface
Overview
Weighing in at all of 6.5 grams and measuring only 1.06 x .78 x .48 inches, the new SR3500 micro receiver clearly qualifies as the world's smallest, easiest-to-install 3-channel racing receiver.
Think of it. All the no-pins, no-crystals, no-glitches, no-interference convenience and security of Spektrum's DSM 2.4GHz technology in a smaller package. Fact is, except for not featuring a telemetry section, its performance and circuitry are identical to that of our regular, race-proven SR3000 receiver. Plus the lowest latency, equal to that of the new Pro Series receivers.
The SR3500 micro racing receiver. It's affordable, it's at our dealer's now, and it's just one more good reason to join Spektrum's digital revolution.
Key Features
Only 1/3 the size of SR3000 receiver
Pro programming lowers latency 1.3ms (2.6ms when used w/Pro Module)
Lower operating voltage
Integrated voltage protector
Forward and backward compatible with all surface systems (except HRS)
Fuel and motor-spray resistant plastic

I was sitting there the other day thinking to myself. Spektrum should release a micro RX. Were they reading my mind. Few days later this appears on their website. Not only small , lightweight 6.5g , it also uses less power.
What this means , more performance for your vehicle , easier fitment in tight places and more runtime. Its so lightweight and small you could even run this on your top decks without much sacrifice to roll-center.

Got the new Spektrum Micro RX and installed it on my R40.
It weighs 5.5 grams according to my scale. Comes with an ultra short 4-6inch antenna (estimation). Didnt know this. Its so small it fits perfectly it tight spaces , like my HPI R40 RX Box.
I then went and cut some thick foam since there is so much room now and made a foam box to fit the little rx into. Fits perfect , looks great and I finally get to point my rx up so the wires can go in easier. Good stuff for those who still have / use the RX Box on the r40.

Final result. Super Short antenna (dont need antenna holes anymore).

Positives: Lighter , Easier To work with RX Box (more room) , Shorter Antenna (less weight, lower cg and doesnt pass through the body so no more antenna holes). That also makes the car go faster since it has less drag from not having an antenna. Overall it drains less power so you also get longer runtimes and possibly faster servos.
Negatives: Needs a bind plug to bind it (not really a drawback) , but you can make one if you loose it.

Will the micro receiver work with the standard and Pro transmitter modules?

I'm used the micro for the first time last weekend. I must say it's SMALL! I was a little worried about using it, I thought it wasn't possible, but they did it and it worked flawlessly!!
You can bind it with any Spektrum transmitter module.. Basically, to decrease the size they took out the binding button and associated electronic gear.. Now to bind it, you need a more manual routine which is done by the included "jumper" seen in the pictures plugged into one of the open slots.
