what turn motor would i need to hit speeds of 35-40 on my tc3?

depends on how fast you want to get there and whether or not you want to use that motor again....

unfortunately your question is highly vague..
just buy an 8 turn, a whole bunch of brushes and a lathe...

well i dont care to mush about acceleration but as long as the top speeds are in that range, i want a reliable motor one that runs good and doesent need to much babysitting, as far as a lathe is it that nessesary if you arent racing that much i plan to race here and thier but not to seriously so could i get by with just using a comm stick and some comm drops????

my suggestion to you is to go brushless....
the initial cost is a killer but after that you get good speed with minimal maintenance....
and no need to buy a lathe or more brushes.....

If ever you reaaly want to go with the brushless I suggest get this one Novak Electronics Super Sport Brushless Motor System w/SS5800 motor..

Ups would be minimal maintenace not much on baby sitting as you like it.. No need for a lathe to fix the comm of the motor.. Its really a fast one and its a quiet motor less noise.. No brushess to replace nor check after every 3 runs in the tracks.. save much money on buying a lathe and brushes.. It already comes with the matched ESC.

Downs definitely its costs. its a bit expensive but for a long run you can consider all the cost..

well you need to change brushes after every 3 runs or so..
and without cutting the comm it will probably be equal to a 19 turn motor in about 10 to 15 runs..
mod motors are high maintenance if you want to keep the performance....

true but i was looking at the brushless systems on towerhobbies and it said the novac system had a 27T racing brush-motor equivalent? how can a brushless system be as fast as a 8 turn motor but yet be the equivalent of a 37turn motor, i mean my rtr tc3 came with a 19t!
but i think i will definatly stick with regular motors for now to see how seriouse i want to get with it

novak has a couple brushless setups...
I dont remember which is which but one is supposed to be somewhere equal to a 10 turn....
I've never owned one, so I dont know for sure..

another thing about the 8 turn is that you need an esc that can handle it....

To answer your original question, you should get something around the 12 turn range if you want your TC3 to hit 35-40. Gearing really plays a big role in top speed too though. Like the other guys have said, if you don't cut the comm the motor will perform a lot worse after 10+ runs.

The novak brushless systems are expensive, but in the long run it will be cheaper because you don't have to buy a practically endless supply of brushes and a lathe to keep the motor in top shape. Also, even if you take good care of the motor and use a lathe it will still wear out more quickly than a brushless motor will. I'm not sure how long a typical brushless motor will last, but I know it's considerably longer than even a well-maintained brushed motor.

yea i think around my birthday i will get it because i usally just get cash so i should have enough then, but yea for now i will get a nice 12 turn and just baby the hell out of it and it should last me.
is thier a pdf. chart or something i can download that tells me the proper gearing for diffrent turn motors?

kh15 - If you don't keep it in good condition by changing the brushes and cutting the comm every few runs it WILL run like crap. If you can't cut the comm or have it cut by a shop near you just save up for a brushless system. Novak has 2 brushless systems for TC's the SS5800 and the ss4300. The SS5300 is, according to novak, the equivalent of a 10t.
