I've got to say that for us, the schumacher rally blocks (still in yellow compound) works much better than the mini pins. The rubber is the same, but the pins are much stronger and that gives a much easier to drive car, still providing a lot of grip.
Also, be aware of the fact that these tyres needs to be broken in to give their true potential. Usually the rally blocks needs about 2 meetings to start providing enough grip. The grip increases with the wear and they are the best when bulled. We don't tend to use them bulled though as we also have some carpet, and bulled tyres are seriously crap on carpet.

silicon
When I raced on a gym floor I used silicon on the foam as well. You would place a bead of silicon around both foam tires and spin them around each other. The contact between them would make your minipin affect and they had amazing grip. Depending on what kind of silicon you use would depend on what type of grip you would get.

Re: TYRES
You will need these from schumhacer
u6671 yellow 20mm tyre with u6634 20mm sponge insert
these are what we use at our indoor gym meetings

Try Tamiyas medium M2 compound radials if you still get them.

I've been doing well with Schumacher Yellow minipins, the Schumacher Blue inserts are good, but I've found a soft thin insert like the echo grey is better.
The rally blocks don't seem to do so well on our surface.
We tend to run very soft springs and ride heights are higher than usual 6 + 7mm.
