does anybody know the gap in VTA and 17.5...I was thinking of using the same car for both classes....just a motor swap,tire and body change..and running 17.5 rubber...but wondering what is the time frame or format of the classes

You can definately do it if there's at least 1 class seperation, but it really might get tight time wise depending on how much you switch your set up from one to another. With the Mini's being back this year and the 12th scale classes there might be a good size gap in between. Last year I ran 17.5 and T/A (with different cars though) and had no problem at all time wise....matter of fact until the mains on Sunday I used the same battery in both cars and had enough time to charge it between runs. Hope this helps.

its till unclear to me is VTA running a max FDR of 5.2 (meaning #s below 5.2)

Look at it this way the lower the number for FDR the faster the car is. So 5.2 is the lowest (max speed) FDR you can go. I know it can get confusing when using the maximum number when it comes to it corresponding to a lower number.

Here is an example;
Your car has a Internal Ration of 2.25
84t spur, 35t Pinion = FDR 5.40 - Legal (slower straight line speed)
84t spur, 36t Pinion = FDR 5.25 - Legal
84t spur, 37t Pinion = FDR 5.11 - not legal (Faster straight line speed)

Hope this helps
