Default Kyosho Lazer SB Dirt Cross

Looks like the ZX5 is re-released. This might make a solid 4wd buggy for club racing on a budget.

I thinks it's odd how they described the rear gear diff...

What's in the front gearbox then????

Looks a little "plasticky". I wonder if it will hold up to 13.5 racing heat after heat......

But any new option is welcome.......

Looks to be based on the ZX5-SP rather than the original.
I raced ZX5-SP and ZX5-FS for several years on astro and carpet with up to a 5.5 mod motor without any real issues of breakages. The ball diffs of the original car was the weak point so this should be stronger still with gear diffs.

I wonder how the price will compare to something like the LC Racing PTG-1 which is only $250 and has things like aluminum big bore shocks.

I think Kyosho's strategy with the Dirt Master / Dirt Cross is to offer very low cost kits to cover the "casual" and "fun runner" space, but retain enough compatibility with their existing hop-up parts catalog for those who want to upgrade. I think that if you were going to take one of these and race for a season, you'd need to make a few upgrades to add durability and increase performance. This, I'm just fine with, because I think the Dirt Master is a fantastic buggy for what it cost. I built it for my wife for those days when she joins me for practice at the track. It's cheap enough that she won't feel bad breaking it. That said, I have broken a D block and turnbuckle after I spun out into a trash can during a test run . Next time it happens, I'll replace the C and D with aluminum parts. Other things I've upgraded (that will probably need attention in the Dirt Cross) are:

Slipper assembly
Universal driveshafts
Metal Hexes / Axles
Hard ball cups
Aluminum lock nuts

YMMV - but I'm buying one of these.

So people know they will need to be ordering a superior handling cab forward body straight away ;-)

It isn't. I consolidated the copy to reflect the key points and highlighted what I though was interesting.

Default Zx5 4 evah

I have a zx5 fs2... and yay for me! Spare parts 4 evah!

Truth to tell, the zx5 was a super nice car to drive. The original had some durability issues:
* c-hub and front hub was super weak
* shock tower mount was super weak
* chassis had holes for the motor, nicad/nimh batteries and spur gear > leading to a lot of stripped spurs
* original had a funky ball diff/front one way/front spool that wasn't ao durable
*super flexi wing mount
Everything was improved in later zx5 models...

It looks like kyosho has dealt with all the major durability issues in this car.

They probably mentioned the rear cab because a lot of people have been asking for more conventional looking bodies. I know I have seen that request, on RCT, over a dozen times.

Yep - also, I think the market for "nostalgia-ish" racing is far bigger in Japan than it is in other parts of the world. If you watch Kai City RC's Youtube channel, you'll see that they have fairly large events for vintage, repro, and "modern vintage-style" racing over there. So, the cab-rearward body is a key requirement.
