Mine is very good on indoor clay with a 13.5 motor.. Used Zeke Ballinger setup to start with.

what options you recommend? Does the drive train have a bunch of drag? Meaning does the car free roll over power very good?

The drivetrain is surprisingly free. I'm impressed with it. The L1 was a little tight, but thr L1r is very free rolling in the drivetrain. I really like the lockout as an upgrade for 13.5. No issues for me using it. I also added the 4mm belts for 13.5 racing as well.

Just be sure to run the belts as loose as possible and you won't notice any major drag. Under acceleration the rear belt is under the most stress and under heavy braking it's the front. You just need to make sure the belts are tight enough not to skip on the pullies (you'll know it when you hear it) and not much more. On clay, runnning 13.5 with the FAB adjusted right you can run the belts surprisingly loose. I even have the front belt tensioner facing forward instead of rearward (per kit specs) because I feel it's easier to get and keep a nice loose front belt tension.

Default Front one way clutch

Hiya folks,

Seems a front one way clutch is all the rage for high grip astro and carpet tracks in shaft drive buggies. I've always thought this gave the 4wd buggies a feel of 2wd buggies (ala 4wd buggies from the 80s and 90s with centre or front one ways). Does the cat l1r have similar issues of the front becoming super twitchy upon landing a jump or needing a diff for lower grip levels like dirt?

The L1R has what's called a FAB, front adjustable brake. The front pulley has a one-way bearing and is essentially a slipper just for the front under braking. It can be adjusted to where it's completely locked down or loosened up all the way and pretty much free wheel the front end (like a 2whl) when you hit the brakes.

Hi all, does anyone know if the Team associated B74.1/2 fits the L1R? Thanks!

I assume you mean the rod ends, they do, though with the extra length you may need shorter turnbuckles

Oops sorry, I meant the body shell. I have some B74.2 bodies and wondering if it fits the L1R. Thanks!

Not sure, I know Broc is running the new JConcepts S15 bodies on his LD3 and L1R. To my knowledge they are only making the S15 right now for the B6.4 and B74.2 so one of those should probably fit. My B6.4 and B74.2 bodies are long gone otherwise I'd test fit them.

Hey guys, just got an L1R and installed a 13.5 but noticed I’m missing the capacitors to the R1 Digital 3 ESC. Any advice weather I need one? Never knew what it actually does.

Hi guys, just got the L1R to drive better by messing with the belt tensions. This is my first time owning a belt driven buggy. Does anyone know how we can mark the tension or does everyone just go by feel of the belt?

I can’t speak for others but the manual and videos didn’t help me much, it was just trial and error. I run my belts as loose as possible without skipping. Typically, if you hear a belt skip under hard acceleration it will be the rear. Hard braking, the front. However, depending on how loose you run the FAB you can get away with a fairly loose front belt. Of course, power and traction will make a big difference, as either or both go up, you’ll need to tighten the belts. Start loose and tighten as needed.

Has anyone actually broke belts in 13.5?
